Simple syrup is a liquid sweetener that can be either plain or infused with fruits, herbs, flowers or other flavors of your choice! Here is another technique to make a simple using a 1:1 ratio of water and sugar:
1) Pour your water and sugar into a saucepan on medium heat
2) Stir the mixture until your sugar has completely dissolved (you can stop here for a plain syrup)
3) Add desired infusion ingredient(s) (remove any peels) and continue heating for 30 seconds
4) Allow syrup to infuse and cool for 30 minutes
5) Strain syrup into an airtight sterile container and keep in the fridge. For best results, use infused syrups within 1-2 weeks. After that, syrups can become bitter and and at risk of bacterial growth.
Try it in club soda, coffee, tea, yogurt or on a cake!
